How to Pack Minimally for a Weekend Trip

How to Pack Minimally for a Weekend Trip

Hello!

With the holidays coming up there is no better time to talk about ways to keep it simple and stress-free. So today, I’m going to show you how to pack minimally for a weekend trip and use the same items to create a few different outfits so you can too this holiday season!

This past weekend, like so many others this year, I went on a quick round trip for a wedding and back. Which means two flights, rehearsal dinner, and one wedding worth of attire needed. Not to mention that we (my boyfriend came too) did not have a lot of time from landing to rehearsal dinner so no checked bag and somehow a transitional outfit for the plane and the dinner. Can you tell that he planned the flights haha?! But we did it, and I got a lot of compliments on the “fits” along the way!

The trick is all in the staples!!! You know I love me a good staple and I have created my go-to look around two staples in particular.

  1. A good, cute coat!
  2. A fluffy blanket-worthy scarf!

The next trick is to build outfits around these that are different “vibes.” I usually opt for an athletic look, a casual look, and because of the wedding, a formal look. That way you aren’t feeling like you are repeating outfits but can build outfits to fit the itinerary as needed. Best part is these outfits in themselves are all different looks, so you can build it up as much or as little as you want!

The first outfit of the weekend was the casual look, which also doubled as my rehearsal dinner look I chose to wear jeans, a black sweater bodysuit, heel booties, and of course, the coat and scarf. This look allows for comfort and function because the coat makes it more formal as well as the heels, and the neutral scarf adds elegance. The airport in heels isn’t ideal so you can always just change into heels later if that’s more comfortable for you.

For the formal look and the actual wedding I went with a nice long sleeve formal dress, booties, and you guessed it, the coat and a different scarf to match the outfit better. This was the foundation of the rest as I wanted to make sure I had the wedding outfit packed and then adjusted for space as needed.

For my athleisure look I threw on leggings, a sweatshirt- I usually go with a cropped one, or an oversized one that I tuck in depending on the weather- a hat to tame that day after hair, my coat, and scarf, and some sneakers. I would usually choose one or the other but it was so cold so I wore both this weekend. This is what I wore home and the layers allowed for me to stay comfy and regulated between being in the airport, and having to wait outside for rides.

That’s it! That’s my trick. And these items (with toiletries, pjs, and everything) take up only half of my carry-on hard case luggage. This means, for me anyway, that my boyfriend and I can pack one bag, each taking one side, and keep the load light!
